Class Distinction in Pygmalion Essay -- essays research papers

The play Pygmalion offers the readers a stack on the theme of class distinction, and the problem of the barriers separating classes and state. Shaw reveals to us the truth about the artificiality of classes and how anybody ordure everywherecome them, He also shows us that society puts up high standards and that people are distinguished by their way of speaking, and their appearance alone and of rowing thats wrong. In the first spot of Pygmalion, Shaw chooses a aspect that really helped shedding light on this theme, for he chose the st. portico square between the church and the theatre, a setting that embraced everybody from different classes and made them all clash under one place for shelter. The gathering of all those different characters, and the way Shaw introduced everybody not by their real names, tho by other names, show us that society puts artificial barriers for the differentiation between the rich and the poor. But as the play progresses each characters point of view about the classes is presented in different situations. Henry Higgins the phonetician sees the difference between the rich and the poor through their outside appearance, how they talk, walk, dress and eat. Professor Higgins sees that the barriers between classes could be over come in six months, and that changing somebodys looks and their way of pronouncing words means upgrading them to a higher social class, but in spite of this, he treats people equally, and his behavior is absolute rudeness to all. Professor Higgins rudeness is an embarrassment to his mother Mrs. Higgins, who knows how to treat everybody with respect, and who isn?t fooled by Elizas good looks and ways of talking. Mrs. Higgins can stil... ... first act they are seen dressed in elegant clothes and waiting for a taxi just like any rich person would do. When they meet Eliza in Mrs. Higgins house, they are fooled by her appearance and they mistake her for a lady, Clara g ets very impressed by Elizas new small talk and Freddy falls for her. So its true, looks can be deceiving, but looks shouldn?t be the one thing that separates classes. Shaw wanted to show people how artificial the barriers are and he succeeded in that, Eliza the poor cockney girlfriend goes to the ambassadors party and is mistaken for a duchess, and her father Alfred Doolittle, he is seen in the last act all well dressed and was considered by people as a middle class man. All that leads us to the conclusion that barriers can be crossed and that society is truly a fool.

African American Pastoral sustainment by Edward P. Wimberly is a supplement to the book written in 1979 on Pastoral Care in the Black Church. Pastoral Care by African Americans shows pastoral counselors how to care for African Americans through a narrative methodology. By linking personal stories and the pastors stories to the center field language of the Bible stories, counselors can use idols blossoming drama to bring healing and reconciliation to human lives. Further, demonstrating that caring can be shown through account telling and is widely used by the black church. The stories relayed are basic methods used in the past by black clergy, seminary students and lay people. Using the methodology of storytelling can build and improve the care given by our black pastors. Black Pastors share stories how caring for their members rely on seven needed narratives gained from stories and metaphors. They incite their members to action by stand bying them to see themselves in a new light, help them recognize new resources, enable them to channel behavior in positive ways, sustain them in crisis, bring healing and reconciliation in relationships, heal scars of memories, and provide guidance when direction is needed. The African American Pastor tell stories that help people gain a glimpse of hope in the midst of suffering. Metaphors have been used for centuries to link Christians to positive directions in life. God from the very setoff uses identifying through biblical stories to heal, provide wholeness, and liberation for the sake of others. God provides four major functions to act in our lives to unfold, link, thicken, and twist to arrive at the final solvent of our purpose in life. In examining the Pastoral Care shared through Gods four major functions we begin to understand what is meant by unfold, God plans our lives one scene and one chapter at a time, and the purpose is not revealed until the complete story is complete. We then rely on Gods guidance to link the unfolding story to their lives. The scriptures help to relate the plot of the story to themselves. Black Pastors sharing their stories with members who see from the unfolding events and how they relate every day. Thickening refers to those events that intrude into Gods unfolding story and seek to change the direction of that story from all involved. Suffering sometimes stakes its claim on our lives and hinders our growth and development.

Using Caffeine is a Sin Against God One of the most widely misunderstood commandments in The Church of Jesus rescuer of Latter-Day Saints is the Word of Wisdom. The question that seems to trouble many members of the church is whether or not caffeine is part of the Word of Wisdom. In this paper, we will find that as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we cannot drink caffeinated beverages and say that we keep the Word of Wisdom. President Hinckley asked and answered a question in General Conference on October 4th of 1997. Are we moving to mainstream America as some observers believe? In this, I fear we are. The comment came due to the increasing amount of obtain that is being done on sundays in LDS communities, and the increasing amount of disobedience to the Word of Wisdom. His tone was one of concern and love. We contain a great righteousness to be an example of virtuous thought and deed. We have been blessed exceedingly with knowledge, that comb ined with wisdom will give us understanding. Why then, as a whole, do we seem to be regressing and becoming more like the world, as our Prophet has stated, instead of like the savior of all mankind, even Jesus Christ. We have been counseled heretofore by prophets of old, to seek shapeing, even by study, and by faith. We have an obligation to search the scriptures and to learn what the Lord is teaching us and exemplar us of. We must go forward with faith, and not backward. We must come unto the Lord, and not expect the Lord to come unto us. Of the many risk of exposures in this world, the greatest danger that we have is an uninformed citizenry. Being informed is an obligation that each of us has to ourselves. Brigham Young said that Education is the ability to think clearly, to act well in the days work, and to appreciate life. By this definition, and after knowing the effects of caffeine upon the human body, I have come to the conclusion that drinking caffeine is a sign of a lack of respect for oneself, and of an unappreciative attitude toward the life that each of us has been blessed with. Furthermore, it shows of either our inability, or unwillingness to learn to think clearly.

The Ch all in allenge of Good AdviceGood advice is in the eye of the beholder. Advice needs to be relative to the situation. If something is missing from advice the whole guinea pig may be dismissed. If there is too much some info may be missed because some is forgotten or attention diverted. For advice to be good options should present themselves. I wont want to be told there is only one way to do something. No straight forward answer should lastly clinch it for me. Id want insight from a variety of sources. Such as verbal and non-verbal, sentences and actions. Cautioning against something too much may have the reverse effect, every once in a while Ive been known to see what will happen, even if guided to do otherwise. The same advice given to two different people may trigger different actions. My mother has said this to me Save your money for something you really want when I was young, like age 9, I ignored this advice because I wasnt officious for it and I wanted candy. My age , 18, allows me to listen better save it for college or to buy a car. The older I got the more willing I was to accept advice. It all depended on what I was thinking and feeling at a particular time or age. Or 18 year olds, like some of my friends could thin the advice as well and just want to party. To me good advice comes from someone I respect or even want to be like. However, if that person is on the scathe track with advice then they could lead me astray. Their so- key outed good advice may be the worst advice I could ever receive. Taking advice has to be a judgment call as well as a learning process. If I were to choose the wrong path it would be no ones fault but my own. I ordinarily want drawn out examples of situations in order to choose what advice is good for me and what is not. Yet my brother wants advice straight to the point and easy to refer back to. thence sometimes I want a little of both. To me the somewhat drawn out examples help me to choose the path to go. Wi th more examples Im bound to remember at least one if not more. The short, but not always sweet, explanations may leave room for interpretation which occasionally have led me to the eve of destruction.

Her name Is Hilary and she is 3years, 3 months and 3 weeks and 2 days. She was born on the 20th ofNovember 2001. Hilary is 3ft 4 inches (101cm) and weighs 2 perdition and3lbs (31 lbs). The number height and weight of a 3 year old is 94cmand 31 lbs, Hilary is a normal coat child because she weighs 3 lbs andis only 6cm taller than the average height. Her face is round and shehas chubby cheeks. Light brown freckles dot around her face and aroundher nose. She has dark brown almond shaped eyes and a small buttonnose. Hilary has a mixed race complexion and dark brown hair tied backinto twists to keep it out of her face. All of her native teeth havegrown, her scratch tooth was her top front incisor, and her last was herback molar just before her third birthday. Hilary has big feet, she isa small size 4 and has many different shoes. Her fingers are long andshe has wide palms.PersonalityHilary is a very friendly and out going child, when I went into herhouse for the first time she came up and sat beside me and showed meher Noddy book. By doing this it showed that she isnt really timidor shy of new/unfamiliar people. I asked Hilary what she was scared or frighten of and she told me she was scared of the dark and lions.When she said lions she squatted her legs and shouted raahhhh veryloudly. Hilary was very liv... ... a pincer grasp when drawing andcolours neatly with in the lines. For my second bodily function I done adrawing with Hilary, she had graceful muscular control when she wasdrawing a lady bird. I helped her to write her name. My third activitywas athletics dough, Hilary was not ve ry keen on playing with the playdough at first because she didnt like the feel of it. But when Istarted to slog the play dough Hilary joined in, she was able to rollthe play dough in to little balls but wasnt able to make the food outof the play dough. However I dont think she understood what to do. Wewent into the garden and were picking up leaves ready to do my fourthactivity, Hilary used her fine motor skills to pick up the leaves. Myfifth activity was an obstacle course in Hilarys front room, Hilaryenjoyed this activity. She was able to climb, jump and crawl over theobstacles.
